Chapter 11- The Queen of Jupiter: Bargains and Bouquets

Sir Kenneth was born to a family of two sons. Alexander, his older brother, was engaged to marry Princess Carmen, the cousin of Princess Lita. The young brothers were dressed for the wedding at the palace gardens. Sir Kenneth was a 12-year-old prodigy at the training academy. He was newly made a knight. He was still young, despite knighthood, and was never called to

court.

With Alexander’s impending marriage to Princess Carmen, things changed and he would constantly be called to court. “Well, I can’t believe you’re getting hitched.”

“Well Kenny boy, there’s something you may be interested in,” Alex smiled slyly.

      “What’s that Alex?”

      “You’ll meet Princess Lita.”

“The young queen?” asked Ken. His high IQ and athletic abilities had him sent away at a young age and he had never seen her before.

Alexander and Ken’s father was the war minister in the King’s council. Alex’s lineage and his position as valiant captain of the royal guard made him an acceptable choice to marry Princess Carmen. “Well, last time I saw Princess Lita, she was very eager to finally meet my genius kid brother. I must say, she’ll be the best cousin-in-law.” The brothers sat inside of the groom’s carriage.

Ken couldn’t help wonder what the Princess looked like. In six years, she would take over as the rightful Queen of Jupiter. Ken, as a knight of Jupiter, would be her servant and he had that desire to see his future boss. “What does she look like?”

“Well, she is pretty for her age, I say that. But, girls aren’t drop dead gorgeous until they get to be Carmen’s age.” Alex smiled as he thought of his fiancée.

Princess Lita waited in the front hallway of the castle. The brothers arrived and she smiled warmly. “Hello.” She kissed Alex and shook Ken’s hand.

“Hello Lita. You look dazzling in that dress.” Alex started the conversation.

“I suppose this is alright. Carmen is still dressing and the guests are waiting in the gardens.”

Ken gazed at her. She was pretty. Her brown ponytail cascaded over her left shoulder. She wore a garland of white carnations in her hair. She was a tall, well-endowed girl that fit very well in her lime-green dress. I’m pleased to meet you, Princess.” Ken bowed.

She had been very impressed that Ken was a knight at a young age. She was also charmed at the way he bowed accordingly. “At last I meet Sir Kenneth.” She curtsied.

“You can call me Ken, Princess.”

      “Everyone just calls me Lita.”

Alex smiled amusing at how friendly they became. “I’ll go to the gardens.”

Just then the other princesses, Prince Endymion, and Prince Chadwick arrived. Lita introduced Ken to them. Ken had seen the princes, but they were upper classmen at the Academy. He was in awe to be in the presence of so many important royalties. After a few minutes of conversation, he realized that they were average kids just like he was. The sound of the organ playing interlude music floated into the hallway. “We should get to our seats,” said Ami.

Ken and Lita continued talking. They looked up to see Carmen come down the stairs in a simple, white wedding gown with a matching, silk shawl. (Think of the Age of Romanticism, period dress.) Ken walked to the organist and told him to play the wedding march in five minutes. He took his place as an usher.

“You look beautiful Carmen.” Lita kissed her cousin on the cheek.

“Oh Lita.” The bride hugged her maid of honor. The organ music played the bridal march. A little servant girl was the flower girl. The bridal party entered the gardens.

Twenty minutes later, the priest said, “Is there anyone with just cause why these two should not be united?”

As if on cue, horses galloped over hedges and crashed the wedding! Swords were drawn. “I’ve come for the beautiful princess Carmen,” demanded a tall, stern man.

“Forget it. She’s spoken for,” replied Alex angrily.

“Princess, you remember our bargain?” asked the man.

She looked at him with bitter defeat. “Everyone, stand down.” She held her hands up and everyone did as she requested. “I will come, but I wish to say good-bye to Lita.” She stared at the leader of the marauders with tears in her eyes. Everyone, especially Alex, was stunned at what she was saying.

      “You have one minute.”

Carmen looked at her young cousin. “Lita, take my bouquet. I want you to keep it and think of me.” The bride presented her maid of honor, her bouquet of pink roses. The cousins embraced each other good-bye.

“Carmen, why?” Lita cried as her cousin mounted behind the gruff leader.

“Remember me!” was all she said. The horses rode off with the bride leaving everyone stunned and confused.

It was two days later. Lita had left the bouquet on her dresser. The flowers were wilting from lack of water. She remembered them and unwrapped the bouquet to salvage the living flowers. As the bouquet separated, she found a short note embedded among the flowers. She lifted the note to her face and read it’s sorrowful message. “Please read the entries in my diary,” read Lita aloud. There was a short list of dates. She read those entries and

immediately called the inner scouts, Alex, and Ken to Jupiter Palace.

“What is this about?” asked Alex. He clearly lost sleep.

Lita paced back and forth as he asked his question. “I have discovered the truth about the kidnapping.”

“What?” Alex practically pounced from his seat. Ken calmed his brother down.

“Carmen secretly put a note in her bouquet. Her diary has a lot of explanations.

“What does it say?” asked Serena.

“Well, there is a long story in it. It has to do with her grandmother.”

Prince Dormelo ruled the kingdom on the Jovian moon, Callisto. He had terrible headaches that made him lose sleep. His only daughter, Faye, saw him suffering and knew that he needed help. She announced that she would pay anything for the health of her father. “You said anything?”

“Dorian Somnus?” He was a young shaman in the kingdom.

“If you will marry me, I can heal your father.”

“I am in-love with Prince Cal. How could I ever agreed to this?”

“You will,” he said devilishly. Her beauty and the fact that she would be the next leader of the kingdom had attracted him.

Her father was healed and the wedding, Faye proclaimed that as a baby, she was betrothed to the youngest son of the current king Jupiter. She was technically married to the prince already. “Your father will suffer this trickery!” screeched Dorian.

“I beg of you. Please spare my father. I will pay with anything else you wish.” She groveled to Dorian because he didn’t know that she was betrothed already.

      “I want your daughter.”

“Daughter?” asked Faye in confusion and horror.

“Daughter, granddaughter… what ever happens I shall her as my wife.” Faye was forced to agree to the bargain.

In return for his loyalty, the Negaverse gave him powers, which he used to manipulate dreams. He became known as Insomno.

It was a year earlier. Carmen had been sleeping. She dreamed of being in a field. Suddenly a man on black horse appeared. He was a handsome man, but there was a brooding darkness within him that frightened her greatly. Who are you?” she asked nervously as he approached.

“I am known as Insomno, the lord of dreams. You belong to me Princess.” He smirked haughtily at his new prospects.

“How is that possible?” she begged to know the truth.

He summarized his love for her grandmother Faye and the bargain they made. “So you see, lady? You belong to me before you were even conceived. Even before your father was born.”

“You made no pact with me, and that bargain without my approval. Why should I agree?” Carmen asked protesting.

“You cousin, Queen Lita, is a much more beneficial match. She is only eleven, but I can wait another seven years. So how shall the debt be paid? You willingly, or Queen Lita by force?”

“So that was why I was taken. It is all a sorrowful business. I know that you will be a good queen. Good-bye my dear cousin forever.”

The girls cried. Alex rose up and stormed from the room. Ken and Lita immediately followed him. “What are you doing?” asked Ken.

“I’m going to find Carmen and kill Insomno,” he said bluntly.

“You can’t just bust in! He’d kill you before you’d get anywhere near her. You’ll need help. We’ll go with you,” reasoned Lita.

“I’m captain of the Imperial guard. Even if she wasn’t my fiancé, I still had the responsibility of protecting her,” Alex continued walking.

“Be reasonable. Carmen means a great deal to all of us. Now stop being selfish and let us help you!” screamed Ken at his brother.

“Alright! Only because you won’t leave me alone.” The three walked back and devised a plan to rescue Carmen.

Carmen was forced to entertain Insomno. She was a great deal like her grandmother Faye, much to Insomno’s pleasure. “Sing, my lady.” He drank his wine.

Carmen took singing lessons and was well trained in alien opera classics. She sang to the accompaniment of three musicians. Insomno saw Princess Faye within Carmen. After three selections she said, “Please don’t make me sing anymore. I don’t have the heart or the strength to sing.” She was still wearing her wedding dress.”

“You are mine now. I am your husband,” he roared at her.

“Very well.” She sang another song, but it was a sorrowful ballad of love. As she finished, a boom was heard in the main hall. Insomno quickly ran to see the source of the commotion. Carmen was curious and followed shortly behind him to watch as well.

The scouts and knights blasted their way into the old palace on Callisto. Everyone attacked Insomno, but he was so very strong. “Shine Aqua Illusion!” Frozen water droplets splashed, but he blocked off the attack.

“Shadow wave!” Everyone fell. Alex managed to scramble to his feet. He ran with sword flying ready to slay his enemy. “Fool!” A dagger flew through the air and pierced into Alex’s chest. The scouts could only watch as Alex laid dying. Insomno gloated over the demise of his adversary.

“Jupiter Thunder Slash!” Jupiter knight made a sharp gash on Insomno’s chest.

“Oh no!” a cry was heard. High up near, the top of the staircases stood Carmen. She saw her true love dead lying in his own blood. She climbed onto the railing. Like a fluttering bird or a billowing cloud, the white dress flapped through the silent air. A thud broke that stillness and Lita fainted from the shock. Carmen landed on her front. Her head faced the side

at an odd angle.

“Curses!” Insomno shouted and vanished. It is a sad ending for the Lives of Carmen and Alex.

Lita and Ken had a bond that would last to this very day. Ken would always have an animosity towards Insomno that lasted until he killed him.
